서울대학교 사회과학대학 정치외교학부 홈페이지를 방문해주셔서 감사합니다.

오늘날 세계는 각 국가의 국내정치, 국제관계, 그리고 이 두 영역을 관통하는 연결망을 분석하고 전망할 수 있는 전문가 양성을 요구합니다. 특히 대한민국은 전후 자유시장을 주창하던 미국의 주도로 국가 우선주의를 중시하는 세계 경제체제 재편이 진행되는 현장을 마주하고 있습니다. 더불어 규범 강국을 자부하던 유럽에 1년 넘게 전쟁의 그림자가 드리우면서, 분쟁 예방 및 중재, 그리고 타결책 제시 능력이 어느 때보다 강조되는 시대입니다. 무엇보다 팬데믹 시대를 거치며 소통의 중요성이 커졌습니다.

정치외교학부는 이처럼 변화무쌍한 시대가 요구하는 비판적 사고와 명석한 판단 능력을 함양하는 교육 과정을 통해 장래 대한민국과 세계의 주역을 키우고자 합니다. 이를 위해 정치외교학부는 강의실에서 출발하여 정치와 외교의 현장으로 이어지는 교육의 장을 만들고자 합니다. 또한 학부 연계과정으로 유럽지역학과 대학원 협동과정으로 평화-통일학도 개설해 운영하고 있습니다.

서울대학교 정치외교학부가 정치학과와 외교학과를 통합하며 출범한 지 12년이 지났습니다. 앞으로 정치외교학부가 더욱 발전할 수 있도록 지속적 성원과 배려를 부탁드립니다. 감사합니다.

Thank you for visiting the website of the Department of Political Science & International Relations at Seoul National University.

Today, the world demands the training of experts who can analyze and predict each country’s domestic politics, international relations, and the networks which penetrate those two areas. In particular, the Republic of Korea is facing a global economic system reorganization which values nation-centrism under the lead of the United States, which once advocated the principle of free market after the war. In addition, as Europe, which used to be a normative power, has been in the shadow of war for more than a year, the ability to prevent and mediate disputes and to present solutions are emphasized more than ever. Above all, the importance of communication has grown through the pandemic era.

The Department of Political Science & International Relations aims to foster the future leaders of Korea and the world through a curriculum which cultivates critical thinking and keen insight required by such a changing era. To this end, the Department of Political Science and International Relations plans to create an educational forum which connects the classroom to the field of politics and international relations. In addition, we have opened and operated a combined major in European Studies (undergraduate level), as well as Peace and Unification Studies as a cooperative course (graduate level).

It has been 12 years since the establishment of the Department of Political Science & International Relations by integrating the Department of Political Science and the Department of International Relations. We ask for your continued support and consideration so that the Department of Political Science & International Relations could develop further in the future.
